The goal of this project is to identify new sources of targeted activities for cosmetic formulations (including: antimicrobial, antioxidant and others to be decided) from North American native plant species starting with species native to Minnesota. Minnesota native plants should provide a sustainable local alternative to other formulation ingredients that can be produced within Aveda’s green and organic ingredient sourcing policy.
Fireweed (Epilobium angustifolium) is one of several Minnesota native or naturalized plant species being investigated as a source of natural perservatives.
